Have your say on proposed changes to wildfowling consenting regulations

BASC is urging members to voice their opinions on proposed changes to wildfowling consenting regulations by taking part in Natural England’s Wildfowling Guidance Review. The consultation, which is live now at https://consult.defra.gov.uk/natural-england/wildfowling-guidance-review/, seeks views on government proposals on how they will permit the shooting of ducks and geese within protected areas in England. Paul Williamson, BASC’s rural land development manager, said: “Natural England’s current approach to wildfowling is incredibly time-consuming and complicated, which has been hugely frustrating for everyone involved. This public consultation provides an opportunity for BASC and wildfowlers to provide feedback to Natural England on their experiences of the consenting process over the last 15 years, and to make recommendations for the future.” John Dryden, a member of BASC Council and chairman of BASC's wildfowling liaison committee, said: "Over-regulation of what is traditionally a lone pursuit, zealously protected by our affiliated wildfowling club system, is unnecessary." On Saturday (7th October) Natural England will hold a presentation at the Ramada Hotel, Penns Lane, Sutton Coldfield, to outline their proposals and give wildfowlers the opportunity to ask questions and seek clarity on the proposals.
