Multi-purpose EKA Combi Saw Viking 17

The “Combi Saw Viking 17” from EKA is a folding saw that contains 3 blades – for wood, metal and plastic, or bone – making it very versatile, yet it folds down to only approx 17” x 2.75” max (43 x 7cm) and weighs only about 0.4kg (1lb).

The saw unfolds easily and the 3 blades are held by a spring in the hollow aluminium frame.  Choose the one you want and fit it onto the stud in the handle.  The handle is then snapped down onto the frame and the blade is tensioned and ready to go!

story continues below...

The usable blade length is approx 12” (31cm) and the frame will allow you to cut logs etc., of up to 4” diameter, while the different blades have coped well with wood (dry and green, oak through to pine), metal (aluminium and brass up to mild steel), plastic (rigid GRP to soft polyurethane and polythene), bone, antler and horn.

OK, the wood blade “wandered” off the vertical in thick and tough wood, but then I do not see it being used for joinery, more hide building and firewood cutting – and the 2 alternative blades rattle a bit when you are cutting with the third… but not too much.  The saw is very versatile for its size and weight, which outweighs its limitations in my eyes.

Coming in brushed aluminium and either black or bright orange plastic fittings, with full instructions and a 10-year guarantee, the EKA Combi Saw Viking is a compact, practical saw that copes with a lot of tasks and costs around £30 to £35. Spare blades are available and easily fitted.
