I was lucky enough to be invited to the Science Museum back in May, for an evening with Leatherman Tool Group founder Tim Leatherman. Attendees were presented with a ‘goody bag’ and it contained one of the company’s stainless steel Micra Keychain Tools and it’s a very impressive little gadget that I’ve had my keys attached to ever since.
It really is tiny at only 2.5-inches long and weighs in at just 1.8oz. but has 10 useful tools in the handles. The tools are – a non-locking, 1.6- inch 420HC Knife, Springaction Scissors, Flat/Phillips Screwdriver, Ruler, Nail Cleaner, Nail File, Tweezers, Bottle Opener, Medium Screwdriver, Extra-small Screwdriver. I’ve used most of them so far and it really is a superb bit of kit. The keyring folds out of the way if you don’t want to attach the Micra to anything but that would defeat the object really.
The knife blade is razor sharp, as are the sprung scissors, which have really come in handy and I think they are possibly one of the best tools on the Micra. It’s light enough to not be too cumbersome in your pocket and it’s great to be able to have so many useful tools on hand. I doubt I’ll need it but the Micra has a 25-year warranty. As well as stainless steel, the Micra is also available in black, blue, green, grey and red. It’s also not expensive at only £39.95.
