The collar is a classic “stand and fall” type that can be worn open, flat ironed or even with a tie.  There is an unusual and highly useful extra fold-out section at the back that can be raised to offer extra protection to the back of the neck.  This collar extension Velcros out of the way when protection from sun or rain is not needed, and is unobtrusive as well as practical.
