I’d never really thought much about socks before! That all changed when I received a pair of Darn Tough ‘Hunter’ socks to try. Made from a mixture of 64% Merino wool, 33% Nylon and 3% Lycra, they are backed by a lifetime guarantee. Darn Tough state: ‘If our socks aren’t the most comfortable, durable and best fitting socks you’ve ever worn, return them for another pair. No strings attached. For life.’ That’s quite a claim and I must admit that I was a little sceptical, but having worn a pair when shooting, I’m a convert! They’re really warm in cold weather and haven’t slipped down into my boots like others do. They’re not too thick either, as thicker socks can often make your feet feel cramped and end up making walking uncomfortable.
I wear quite high-legged boots, so the Hunters are perfect, as the top hem finishes well above the boots. The material wicks moisture away from your feet, so there’s no clammy feeling, even after an extended period. The highdensity knitting doesn’t have any seems for enhanced comfort and I really couldn’t find fault with the material, build or finish. I’ve not worn them in warm weather yet (that’s been rather thin on the ground lately) so I’ll just have to take Darn Tough’s word for it that they’re not too warm when the sun actually comes out… All-in-all, a very comfortable and impressive pair of socks!
