  • On the other side of Christmas, things are bound to be a little bit slow, but there are a handful of militaria fairs and other events with a military-related theme that are worth visiting. At this quiet time of year, it is also a good opportunity to plan ahead and to help. Here are some events to put into your diaries to avoid disappointment.

  • The Imperial War Museum site at Duxford, Cambridge, will be hosting a series of air shows in 2023, including the Summer Air Show on the weekend of the 24th-25th June and the Battle of Britain Show on the 16th-17th September 2023. www.iwm.org.uk/airshows

  • The Tank Museum at Bovington, Dorset, BH20 6JG, always puts on a range of great events and it has already released some dates to allow for advanced planning, such as the Tiger Day on the 22nd April. Tickets for the Tankfest show sell out very fast and the 2023 show is being held 23rd-25th June. www.tankmuseum.org

  • Wartime in the Vale at Ashdown Camp has announced its date for 2023 as being the 19th of June and promises again to be a great weekend. The show has everything, including vehicles, displays, trade stands and re-enactors. www.ashdowncamp.com

  • The Royal Armouries at Leeds has a list of ‘Daily Shows’ running during the months of January and February 2023 featured on its website. These are short presentations on a range of subjects with a military history theme and it could be an idea to visit just after Christmas. www. royalarmouries.org/whats-on

  • 8: Sunday. A militaria fair is being held at the Thetford Leisure Centre, Croxton Road, Thetford, Norfolk, IP24 1JD. Wide range of collectables for all interests. Doors open between 10am and 2pm. www.thetfordmilitariafair.com

  • 8: Sunday. The Croydon Military, Aviation and Model Collectors’ Fair is being held at the Hallmark Hotel, Purley Way, Croydon, Surrey, CR9 4LT. Doors open at 10-30am. Full range of collectables for many interests. Contact: [email protected]

  • 22: Sunday. The Bolton Scale Model Show is being held at the Premier Suite at the University of Bolton Stadium, De Havilland Way, Bolton, BL6 6JW. Demonstrations, trade stands and displays, many with a military theme. Doors open between 10am and 4pm. Contact: [email protected]

  • 25: Wednesday. Fort Talks is being held at Fort Nelson, Portsdown Hill Road, Portsmouth, Hants., PO17 6AN, with guest speaker Dr Kate Vigurs presenting a talk called ‘SOE Paris and the Prosper Network’. Presentation begins at 7pm and lasts until 8pm. www.royalarmouries.org/fortnelson

  • 29: Sunday. Stoneleigh Militaria 2023, Europe’s Premier Militaria Show, is being held at the Exhibition Centre, Stoneleigh Park, Coventry, Warks., CV8 2LG. Wide range of collectables and much more for all interests. www.militariashows.com

  • The ‘Horse Power’ exhibition at the Rural Life Museum. in Glastonbury, Somerset, telling the history of the use of the horse in war and peace in Somerset, will end on Saturday 7th January 2023. www.swheritage.org.uk/events
