Description

Largest selection of genuine antique weapons for sale in UK. See our website andrewbottomley.com. Ref 2049. A very unusual, hand-rotated, all brass 4 shot Pepper-box revolver. Circa 1840-1860. This rare type of pepper-box could have been carried during the U.S. Civil war era. The pepper-box was invented around the 1830s and was originally intended for civilian use, but military officers often made private purchases for their own use. James Ewell Brown “Jeb” Stuart (1833-1864) was a U. S. Army officer and later a Major General and cavalry commander for the Confederate States of America during the U.S. Civil War (1861-65). In 1857 he was shot in the chest at point blank range with a pepper-box by a Cheyenne warrior, Stuart survived probably due rumour has it, to a very weak powder charge. Brass trigger guard and frame, steel hammer and plain wooden grips. 3 inch brass barrels. The side-plate engraved "J. ENG. h" ( Believed to be Johan Engholm). Pistol In good condition showing some minor signs of use. Action in good working order. Overall length 8 inches. Ref 2049. This is an obsolete antique item and is sold as a collectors item only. No Licence is required in the United Kingdom. If you wish to purchase this item please visit our website andrewbottomley.com where you can pay by credit/debit card or bank transfer.
