In just over 90 pages the authors of this work take the reader on whistle-stop tour across seven centuries of warfare. In that space they range from pre-gunpowder period to the early firearms and squeeze in major campaigns such as the Crusades, Hundred Years War, Wars of the Roses and, of course, the Dark Ages. Both authors are experienced re-enactors in the period and they present this work as a cross between a reference work and an introductory guide to would-be Medieval period re-enactors. It works well and the photographs are highly detailed to support the informative text. Indeed, they show the level of detail which has gone into recreating the items from footwear to plate armour and all the weapons. A real must for re-enactors interested in the period.
