MTC Viper Connect Mount

MTC Viper Connect Mount

With MTC’s Blueprint Reach Forward Adjustable Mounts hitting the shops a while back, this energized brand is determined to arrive at solutions for every eventuality. However, whilst that latest highly versatile mount is great at troubleshooting, the level of adjustment adds to production costs and simply isn’t required by many shooters.

Simplified
On show here is the MTC Viper Connect Mount, and whilst I should point out that MTC states that this mount “will only work with (their) Connect scopes”, I happen to know this isn’t true, since it is equally at home and the perfect companion for some models in its Copperhead range, such as the 3-12x44. There are a few super-compact scopes on the market, and I’m sure some will also be compatible with this mount, but I would add the caveat that you should probably try one before you buy it.

Compact
At a whisker over 4.25” in length, the Viper Connect Mount is a neat design, plus it’s machined from high-grade aluminium. The one-piece configuration adds full rigidity, and the base can be specified either as an 11-12mm dovetail (3/8”), or Picatinny, with the customary cross bar locators. The latter belt and braces approach is increasingly common these days, so MTC is satisfying demand here. The latter option also gets the usual twin quick-release bolts for easy and fast transfer between rifles. Hand tightening can work with these, but obviously only advisable when used in a recoilless scenario.

Sans padding
The key to this mount is the super-slim single strap, which is just 3/8” wide. Add in the secure double strap at the other end, and we have an exercise in versatility. Allen heads are utilized throughout, and there’s a precision feel too. I’m pleased to say these mounts are free from the dreaded tacky (in more ways than one) sticky pads, that some manufacturers deem necessary these days. Indeed, the only marks I’ve ever had left on a scope, in many years of shooting, are from those over-gummy add-ons! Anyhow, moving swiftly on.
The Viper Connect Mount really is a mount to get you out of trouble in a tight corner, so to speak. As usual, the consideration is - once you get past the 30mm specification ring diameter - are there any protruding saddle gas-up housings on the proposed scope, that may foul the base? If you’re unsure, as before, a size-up in the local gun shop will make sense. Otherwise, if you’re purchasing the Connect Mount to fit an MTC Connect scope or the popular compatible Copperhead models as mentioned, then buy with confidence. Machining, finish, and all importantly, function, are everything we have come to expect from MTC, and if you don’t need or want the complexity of an adjustable chassis, then this well-made, simplified alternative represents good value.
