The AG-50 lamp kit fitted to the author’s rifle has performed very well, but the inevitable urge to upgrade kicked in so something bigger and better was needed. After searching online for something suitable the kit on test, the XS-75 Deluxe, was ordered and promptly arrived at the front door.
The XS-75 Deluxe Scope Mount Lamping Kit includes the XS-75 lamp itself, three LED pills, a glow in the dark switch, a remote switch, two batteries complete with charger, a scope mount and a battery extension tube. A fitted protective case can be purchased for an extra £10.
The lamp has a strong aluminium body with ‘o’- ring seals, an anti-glare shroud and a twist zoom adjuster. The 75mm glass lens is heavy and very good quality. There are three LEDs in the box – white, green and red – with an infrared pill also available from Opticfire.
The batteries and charger are ‘clever’, so you can either fully charge or just top them up without causing any damage. You can also charge both simultaneously or just one at a time.
The scope mount is a simple but clever clamp-type device designed to fit scope diameters of 25-30mm and it does tighten and grip well without too much effort.
The torch operates very well with just one battery, with a powerful beam of light and a good runtime, but you can add the extension tube to the body of the lamp and insert the second battery giving you double the battery power! The lamp is then that bit longer and sits in the hand better.
Fitting the lamp to the scope, using the mount included in the kit, is easy and the light beam lines up with the scope automatically due to the way the mount grips both the scope and the lamp with parallel jaws.
The lamp gives good illumination up to around 500-yards and the beam is nice and tight with little light leaking out of the main beam. Lighting up this distance is not necessarily intended for you to hit a target at that range (at night that would be a very good shot), but the illumination past your target to your backstop ensures you are taking a safe and considered shot. All three of the LEDs give a very good level of illumination for the fullrange of the beam with the red and green being far less intense making them much less noticeable at night.
This lamp is a great piece of kit, giving superb illumination out to an extended distance. It is very well-built and although heavy it does not make the gun unmanageable. If you are looking for a powerful lamp for your night-time shooting, or just a very powerful torch for general use, this is a great choice. Well worth the price.
