Bill Thomas checks out a new gas on the market and sees if it does really help to “dominate the field”
So, it’s green, very green due to the striking new can, and it’s gas, so what’s all the fuss about? So called “green gas” has been a part of the airsoft world for years now and it always seems to me that one manufacturer or another is claiming theirs to be “the best” or “enhanced” is some way, so I’m afraid I’ve become a little jaundiced towards these statements. However, when that statement comes from the producer of some of the best, top end gas blowback handguns, carbines, and rifles in the world I’m prepared to sit up and take notice. WE Airsoft Europe offer a splendid range of replicas, and although they do offer electric models, it’s for their gas guns that they are best known and respected.
With such a heritage I’m actually a little surprised that it has taken them so long to offer their own product in order to feed the appetites of their replicas, but they do say that good things come to those that wait. First off is the branding of the gas, and as I mentioned at the outset there is now way you’re going to miss a can of WE gas in your local shop; bright green would be an understatement, and it’s certainly going to catch the eye compared with the often drab cans of its competitors. But good packaging is all very well if the product performs, and I’m pleased to report that WE gas does exactly what it says on the can. It’s a high performance gas, highly pressured and great for metal airsoft guns. WE Airsoft Europe do state that it may not be suitable for plastic models so please take heed!
Essentially the gas is a propane/ silicone mix which is good as the silicone component will help with the lubrication of seals and moving parts within your replica and help to prolong their service life. It’s also going to help to combat corrosion and rust. In use the gas seems very effective; did it provide additional power for my gas guns? Not to any discernible degree I have to admit, although the cycling was flawless, and the gas did appear to last longer, and certainly seemed to perform a little better than most on cold days. I do like the fact that the can comes with a metal nozzle. All to often over the years I’ve managed to break a fair few of the plastic ones which effectively means you can be left with an almost full can of gas and no way of actually getting it into your gun. Having the metal nozzle means that this is unlikely to happen, but there’s also a tight fitting (green!) cap to protect it in transit.
I spoke to the great team at WE Airsoft Europe and they had this to tell me; “This gas has been designed and formulated to reach maximum power and performance in many of the varied temperatures found in our European countries.
This is important for us as WE Airsoft Europe because as we see it we are leading the way in European Airsoft. We listen directly too and bring products to market specifically for use in Europe and not Asia!” Time will tell on this, but one really positive thing I am expecting from this gas is consistency. WE Airsoft Europe are painstaking in the quality of their products and I am certain that their gas will be no less carefully quality controlled than the other excellent products they have in their line-up.
Their claim that their gas will help you to “Dominate the Field” could very well be true! Priced at around £9.00 per 300g can WE Airsoft Europe Premium Green Gas is available from all good airsoft retailers, or you can find out more by visiting their website www.weairsoft-europe.com
