The shooting luggage market is very saturated but when the quality of kit offered is high then there’s always room for another brand. This is the case (no pun intended) with the latest name to hit these shores, that being Red Rock Outdoor Gear. Exclusively handled in the UK by RUAG Ammotec the choice is a very comprehensive one and ranges from various backpacks, carryalls, range bags to a gun bag. Here I’m cherry picking a selection of items that illustrate the quality of the kit and items I personally would have no hesitation is using.
First up is the Transporter Day Pack. Measuring 17 x 10 x 8-inches, like most of the company’s luggage it’s manufactured from 600D Polyester. This 20L capacity pack features a reinforced carry handle, mesh ventilated padded back panel with fully adjustable, contoured and wellpadded shoulder straps. The full clam shell opening pack fastens with two heavy duty zips with pull assists and for added security has four quick release compression straps.
There’s also a 11 x 9 x 1-inch outer double-zip fasten pocket and almost the entire pack features a laser cut Molle webbing platform for attaching additional compatible pouches and/or gear. The inner has two opposing elasticated top mesh sleeve pockets and what the company term a ‘touch-fastener lining.’
At the other side of the size range is the 35L Large Assault Pack which shares many features common to all backpacks such as a reinforced carry handle, shoulder straps with D-rings plus touch fastener closure and keepers. Measuring 18 x 11.5 x 12-inches, the total storage capacity is supplied by a combination of four expanding compartments each with built-in internal dividers and zippered pockets. Adjustable, contoured reinforced padded mesh shoulder straps, plus adjustable waist strap, and sternum strap evenly distribute the weight across your shoulders and waist for all-day comfort.
A padded mesh back panel serves as a concealed pocket or provides storage for almost any hydration bladder, up to 2.5L (bladders sold separately).
With compression straps on three sides, it’s a cinch to tighten down your pack or to reduce the volume if you aren’t fully loaded. The outside of this pack is in this instance fully clad in MOLLE webbing to allow for additional gear.
Last but not least, the 30L capacity Deluxe Range Bag measures 17 x 12 x 8-inches, which even on first inspection has the look of a superb and highly featured allpurpose shooting bag. Reason being, it has the capacity and compartments for accessories such as ammunition, ear protection, binoculars, first aid kit, rain gear and even pistols.
The large main internal compartment has two removable padded dividers. Externally, the front side features four doublestack rifle mag pouches as well as both a touch fastener and a zippered slip pocket. The rear panel features a handy fold-out multipurpose mat for working with range gear while either side of the bag is flanked by mesh sleeves. The padded adjustable shoulder strap can be moved among the four D-ring connection points for user preference and comfort.
There are many other bags and packs in the Red Rock range, all of which are manufactured to the standards of the three here detailed. All come in a wide variety of colours and considering the quality are very reasonably priced.
