Caldwell Ultimate Ragets Holder

Taking to the field for a practise session any time soon? Then the chances are you’ll need a target holder or stand of some description. Admittedly we often make do with improvised targets, but for any serious extended sessions, a dedicated target holder can make the experience much more organized and enjoyable.

Compact Design

The Caldwell Ultimate Shooting Stand is a nice piece of design work, and accommodates targets of varying sizes. It’s supplied fl at-packed with full instructions, although assembly is very straight forward. A moulded high impact plastic body holds all the constituent parts in a neatly storable fashion, which means the whole thing is highly portable and practical.

To get started, the two main metal support rods need to be pulled from their retaining holes and clips. Likewise, the plastic cross support needs to be slid off the bottom spikes. To assemble, first push each support rod into their respective side holes/ channels, and insert and twist as the rod passes the retaining groove. Stop when each rod is firmly pushed home and feels locked in place. It’s important to make sure the rods are pushed all the way home at this point, since the backing sheet is just about a perfect fit, with little to spare length wise. That cross support can then be slid into the chunky moulded dovetail near the base, and set to the desired position.

Next just push the whole assembly into the ground using the bottom spikes, and at this point, the cross support will prevent the stand from being pushed back or forwards if any wind is present. Unfold the three-panel corrugated plastic backing board, and locate the four ‘spines’ on the creases, in order to give rigidity to the backer. Push it into the two side retaining clips formed by the side bars, stick a target up, and you’re away!  If all that sounded complicated, my apologies… because it really isn’t.

That enormous backing board incidentally, measures 32”x17.5”, so huge potential awaits. Smaller targets or backing sheets can be used if preferable, by simply removing one of the side support rods, and instead, locating the small additional target clip to the central moulded rail of the stand body.

Storage

Further attention to detail comes with the built-in storage department, accessed via the snap lid in the centre of the stand body. To here can be added target tape, bulldog clips and such like, as well as the backing sheet ‘spines’ when the whole stand is finally packed away.

One final feature that helps to make this Ultimate Target Stand so impressive, is the sheer height at which the target sits, once the stand is fully assembled. With the potential to hold targets over three foot up, the frustrating problem of long grass or other ground obstructions can be side-stepped at a stroke. Add in the all weather nature of the construction of this target stand, and it’s clearly difficult to find fault. 

Altogether then, an excellent product, well designed, well executed, and highly versatile.
