Fenik TK25 Tactical torch

Fenik TK25 Tactical torch

The first tactical torch suitable for gun mounting that I tested from Fenix was the TK15C. A 450-Lumen, compact and lightweight unit that offered white, red and green lighting options plus multiple beam intensities. However, Fenix realised that there was a place for a higher power and even more versatile model, resulting in the launch of the TK25. Due to the increased power and wider range of settings, it’s equally at home being used with air rifle when ratting or targeting rabbits or siting on a centrefire for lighting up Charlie.

The durable aircraft grade aluminium body has a Premium Type III hard black anodised anti-abrasive finish, IP68 water rating and is both shock proof and impact resistant. With a length of 142.6mm, a 25.4mm body tube diameter and 40mm head diameter, this power packed, fully-feature tac torch weighs in at a solid 156.5g excluding battery. Power sources are either an 18650 Li-ion rechargeable or regular 2x CR123 batteries and it comes with a holster, lanyard, spare O-ring seal, plus removeable metal pocket clip.

A key feature of the torch is the Fenix patented rotating dual reflector system, whereby there are either 2x Cree XP-G2 S3 White LEDs or 1x Cree XP-E2 red and 1x Cree XP-E2 blue LEDs sharing the reflectors. This cleverly allows for the twin 500-Lumen focused white light beams to combine giving a maximum power of 1000Lumens. The individual red and blue LEDs also utilise these reflectors, so benefit equally from their influence having tight, colour rich beams.

story continues below...

Changing light colour requires rotating the torch head a quarter turn, which then lifts the reflectors from one pair of LEDs and precisely drops them over the others. Light output is disabled until the reflectors are in the output position and laser engraved marks on the head and body indicate whether white or red/blue output is engaged.

All in hand

As a standalone hand-held torch, it uses a tail cap with dual rubber tail switches – a tactical switch (main switch) which is round in shape and operates on/off and momentary functions – and a functional switch or (mode switch) which is smaller and oval in shape. This selects the 4-brightness levels of white light, or cycles through the other options of red high, red low, then changes over to the one-intensity blue mode. Holding down this switch with white light selected gives access to the strobe. When switched off, it gives instant access to strobe or red high output depending on the position of the reflectors.

Designed to be gunmountable, there’s a dedicated stock mountable remote unit available. This replaces the standard tail switch and has a coiled/straight cable running out to a slim oblong shaped ABS cased remote. This holds two rubber pressure pads, the configuration being an oblong switch at the front (mode selector) and a raised round one (on/ off) immediately behind.

Maximum power is 1000-Lumens white light with a range of 225m, 150-Lumens red light with a range of 132m or 60-Lumens blue light with a range of 41m. Power settings and runtimes are: Turbo 1000-Lumens (2-hours), High 300-Lumens (5-hours 20 mins), Medium 100-Lumens (22-hours 20mins), Low 15-Lumens (110-hours). Red High 150-Lumens (7-hours 30mins), Red Low 25-Lumens (40-hours), Blue 60-Lumens (6-hours 40mins).

Accessories needed for gun mounting are the Fenix AER- 03 stock mountable remote, a 25mm/30mm QR scope mount bracket or, alternatively, the ALG-00/ALG-01 mounts that fit Picatinny rails.
