Buck Trunk Folding Knife

Buck Trunk Folding Knife

The Trunk folding knife is Buck’s very first cleaverbladed knife and it’s ideal for cutting, slicing and chopping, plus it makes for a really nice, convenient, everyday carry (in suitable and legal situations).

That blade

The 2.875” blade is manufactured from 7Cr stainless steel, which is a ‘budget’ steel from China and although relatively soft, it is easy to sharpen and does hold a reasonable edge. The fact that the razor-sharp blade has an almost completely straight cutting edge, makes it very easy to sharpen and maintain with a sharpening stone, so a great blade to hone your sharpening skills on.

There is a well-shaped ‘flipper’ on the spine of the cleaver, to make onehanded opening possible, and once open, the blade is held very securely with a liner-lock mechanism. There is also a thumb-stud on the side of the blade if you prefer to open it that way.

Get to grips

The scales are made of G10, which is an almost indestructible resin laminate and Buck has given the material a very effective, textured finish to enhance grip when wet. Some finger grooves on the front of the grip also help to give a good hold and you can really put a lot of force through the blade if required. With a closed length of just 4” and a nice slim belt clip, the knife can be carried anywhere and deployed in seconds.

In use

The knife is very comfortable to use and strong enough to tackle tough jobs. If you are processing shot game and opening up heavier joints on the carcass, this tough tool can be used with a lot of force. Having one of these knives to hand as a ‘second knife’ is really useful and an added benefit of this blade shape is that there is no tip to either injure yourself with or damage in use.

Conclusion

This is a great budget knife that’s priced very competitively. It’s very strong and definitely well designed and practical. The steel used in the blade is not the hardest but it holds an edge better than most in this price range. With a really nice shaped handle, made of one of the most durable materials, it is easy to use and built to last. Despite it being relatively cheap, the Trunk still carries Bucks Forever Warranty, which is a reassuring sign of the build quality.
