Whitby Eden, Lune, and Keer Sheath Knives

Whitby Eden, Lune, and Keer Sheath Knives

› Whitby has a comprehensive range of folding and fixed-blade knives – some basic but practical, others very task-specific. It has recently added a very interesting selection of fixed-blade outdoor/camping sheath knives to the roster. They share certain commonalities but have uses and appeal in their own right.

The similarities
All are manufactured using 8cR14MOV stainless steel – a strong metal that gives good edge retention – have a black oxide finish, are a full tang design, and have G10 handles, which is a strong and very durable material that affords a superior grip. They all come with sheaths made of Kydex, a thermoplastic acrylic-polyvinyl chloride material which has the properties of rigidity, formability, durability, and chemical resistance, making it ideal for sheathing a knife blade. Thanks to the close tolerance moulding, the sheath grips the handle tightly, making the knife very secure when sheathed. Hinged for ease of belt mounting, the sheaths can be adjusted to the user’s preferred angle.

Almost tactical
First up is the Whitby Eden, which has an almost tactical look. However, in use, it’s certainly fit for purpose. With an overall length of 7.75”, it has a 3.5” modified drop point blade and weighs 264-grams. The Black G10 handle features both a finger and thumb choil, plus guard. Ridging within the guard, along both sides and at the very rear edges of the handle, affords the user a very assured grip. The knife balances extremely well in the hold.

Caps off
Next, we have the Lune. Measuring 7.5” in length and weighing 244-grams, it has a 3.25” clip point blade. The Tan G10 handle features a finger choil with a guard, and the spine of the blade is aggressively ridged to give further security in the hold and when undertaking demanding work with the knife. A strange inclusion is the bottle opener built into the rear of the handle. If you’re going to use it, I recommend that the knife is sheathed.

Chop chop
Last but not least is the unique and very interesting Keer, available with either a black or tan handle. Measuring 6.25” in length and weighing 207-grams, it boasts a 3” long cleaver-style blade with a thumbhole. Its uses are many and due to the thumbhole (which is actually for the forefinger), you can have complete security to stabilise the blade when performing tasks that require dexterity. Cleverly, there’s also a finger guard built into the underside of the blade and even if held full in the hand or using the thumbhole, it feels very secure in the hold.

Conclusion
All of these knives are suitable for a variety of heavy-duty outdoor tasks, whether you’re at the campsite or out in the wilderness. The Keer will be of particular interest to the hunters that regularly prepare small game.
