Brandit Performance Outdoor Jacket

For the uninitiated, Brandit is a German manufacturer offering a very comprehensive selection of quality urban and classic military-style products for everyday wear. I can certainly attest to their effectiveness in what I’ve experienced previously. However, here I’ve got the Brandit Performance Outdoor Jacket to scrutinise and it’s quite unique and relatively specialised.

Build-up

This high-performance, heavy-duty, water-repellent and breathable field jacket is made of 900D polyester and 500D Cordura. It uses a 3-ply design comprising a 100% polyester outer shell material, 100% nylon second shell material, and 100% polyester lining with a lower quarter mesh lining for improved breathability. This results in the jacket being very hard-wearing, durable, breathable, wind-resistant, and water-resistant.

Well featured

The jacket boasts a press stud detachable and adjustable hood with an integral visor, plus a hook-and-loop fastener and drawcords for cinching it tight up around the head and sides of the face when the conditions dictate. It also has a stand-up collar with a hook-and-loop fastener, while the front fastens with a heavy-duty, two-way YKK zipper with press stud fastened storm flap.

In keeping with the solid construction, the elbows have Cordura reinforcement, and there are hook-and-loop adjustable sleeve cuffs and an adjustable waist and hem with strong drawcords. There are also lengthy mesh-covered underarm zippered vents for temperature regulation, aiding wearer comfort. Plus, the rear has a slight fishtail design.

Load bearer

This jacket has lots of storage areas, including three front pockets with hook-and-loop over flaps with webbing pull tabs for ease of opening, plus additional zippered side pocket compartments behind the main pockets. There’s even a hidden front pocket with a reverse zipper, plus an upper arm pocket suitable for large smartphones and the like. Also included is an underarm pocket with a reverse zipper, plus closeable arm pockets for elbow protectors (not supplied).

As if this wasn’t enough storage, there’s an inner pocket with a reverse zipper, and for those who carry gear externally, there are multiple MOLLE webbing straps for attachments. All pockets are PVC lined and all zips are genuine YKK with glove-friendly zipper pulls.

Conclusion

The Brandit Performance Outdoor Jacket is stated as being designed for everyday use in urban and outdoor environments. It might not be 100% waterproof but will definitely withstand squally conditions and easily cope with moderate to medium rainfall. It’s very well manufactured, and due to the 3-ply design, it offers a lot of protection from the elements. Another major bonus is that the thoughtful design considers storage, as it has a host of well-positioned pockets and is kitted out for added attachments for MOLLE-compatible pouches and the like.
