Smiths Pack Pal Sharpener & Firestarter

Smith’s has one of the largest rosters of knife and scissor sharpeners available, ranging from simple, fixed angle pull-through types for those that want quick and easy sharpening, to sophisticated precision kits designed for the knife sharpening enthusiast. Their offerings include both manual and electrical sharpeners that incorporate many different abrasive materials including diamond, carbide, ceramic, bonded synthetic abrasives and of course, natural Arkansas stones.

The Smith’s Pack Pal and Firestarter is a compact unit for the outdoors person and is especially useful for infield sharpening of a dulled blade. It has a lightweight polymer construction, shows a carbide sharpening slot, holds a fire starting rod and has an integrated emergency whistle in the handle. The unit can also be attached to your pack with its integral carabiner clip.

It’s simple to use and allows blades to be sharpened safely, quickly, and easily. The left side of the sharpener’s body is designed so that it can be securely held by the left hand while the base of the Pack Pal is placed on a flat surface. To sharpen a blade, the knife edge is placed in the cross carbide sharpeners and drawn towards the user.

Overall, it’s a well-designed unit that will take up little room when stored and if clipped to a belt loop or rucksack D-ring, will be unobtrusive and held very securely.
