Fenix HL26R, HM50R & HP25R Headlamps

A headlamp is essential for many shooting needs and a worthy addition to your kit; with this in mind, let’s look at three new models from Fenix.

HL26R

First up, is the HL26R at 65 x 44 x 37mm, weighing 86grams and built to IP-66 weatherproofing standards. The 60° tilting engineering plastic with cast aluminium inner frame holds a Cree XP-G2 R5 and Nichea White LEDs. The former offering 3x Spotlight, the latter 2x Flood modes, with separate switches for operation but can’t be ‘run’ simultaneously. There’s also an SOS flashing emergency mode, low battery indicator and an internal heat sink, along with a last mode memory. The powerful 450Lumen ‘burst mode’ on main beam operates for one minute after activation, giving excellent punch to reach out to 100m when required. Powered by an integral Li-poly battery, it charges via the Micro USB cable supplied. Run times: Spotlight: Burst 450Lumens (1hr 30min) High: 130L (6hrs), Medium 70L (12hrs) and Low (25hrs). Floodlight Modes: High 40L (13hrs), Low 4L (100hrs) and SOS 40L (26hrs).

HM50R

Next, the HM50R, which converts to a mini torch. Manufactured from aircraft grade aluminium with a premium Type III hard anodised, anti-abrasive finish, it measures 67.5 x 33 x 28mm, weighing 63gram and IP-68 weatherproof. The Cree XM-L2 U2 LED is powered by a single 16340 non-rechargeable lithium battery (supplied) using a micro USB cable (included). It can also use a CR123 rechargeable lithium battery. The single side switch controls 4 brightness levels up to a Max output of 500Lumens with an 80m range. Output levels are tuned to offer the maximum run time, so the higher brightness levels will automatically reduce to a lower level to achieve this. There’s a last mode memory setting plus battery level indicator. Run times: Turbo 500Lumens (2.5hrs), High 130L (10hrs), mid 30L (24hrs), Low (4hrs).

HP25R

Finally, the HP25R. The casing measures 60 x 54 x 32.5mm and the battery box 82.5 x 50 x 35mm - all weighing 183.5gram excluding batteries. Using aircraft grade aluminum, the lamp unit houses Cree XM-L2 U2 Spotlight and XP-G2 R5 Flood LEDs, plus a small Red unit. The ‘Spotlight’ has 4 brightness settings with the highest delivering an impressive 1000Lumen beam out to 185m. The 90° floodlight beam also offers 4 brightness settings and individual switches control each; beams cannot be combined! Waterproof to IPX-6, it features a last mode memory circuit, plus battery level indicator.

It comes with an 18650-rechargeable battery housed in the rear and a micro USB charging cable. It can also run on 2x CR123A non-rechargeable batteries. Run Times: Spotlight 1000Lumens (1hr 30m), 350L (4.5hrs), 130L (12hrs) and 30L (42hrs). Flood 350Lumens (2.5hrs), 130L ((9hrs), 30L (40hrs) and 4L (150hrs).
