Tracer Headlights

The Tracer brand name of gun-mounted lamping kits from Deben is known the world over. They’re pretty much market leaders in this area and have been for some time. Now they’ve added two products to their range that take advantage of the new technology. First the largest, the Tracer Professional LED Headlight – Rechargeable. Deben claims “it’s the ultimate headlight” and it did prove itself to be a very high performer.

The main housing has a tough anodised aluminium body. The soft rubber operating switch is positioned on the side of the headband (something I prefer) while the single cell rechargeable battery pack is located more conventionally at the rear. The main features are the high performance white LED which gives 2 ½ hours run time on continuous high mode. At this level it’s giving out 220 Lumens that reach out to 150m. It features heat dissipaters in the design and the front lens is 24mm in diameter and made from toughened clear glass. The whole package is lightweight at just 193g!

It can also be programmed to allow the user to preset the brightness of the tight beam, plus there’s a strobe and a slow SOS facility. The Pro LED Headlight comes with mains charger, and an optional vehicle charger. This lamp is fully waterproof.

Compact

The Tracer Compact LED Head Light doesn’t fail to impress either. Though only powered by a single AAA battery and weighing just 50.8g, it’s useful for many night time tasks and easy to stow in a pocket. Even so there are three illumination settings at your disposal – High 80 Lumens, Medium 18 Lumens and low 1.5 Lumens. Continuous run time is 55min, 4hrs and 50hrs respectively.

Modes are easily selected by simply rotating the front of the unit. The battery can be removed from the headband as can the light, a pocket clip is supplied so you can use it as a mini hand torch. Surprisingly for such a small light of only 11mm in diameter and running on single low battery it can still put out a beam to 40m on its highest setting. Manufactured from the same materials as its bigger brother it’s waterproof and for those wanting easy to use versatile while lights, these two fi t the bill they’re intended for perfectly.
