Buffalo River Heritage Collection 52” Gunslip and Cartridge Bag

More often than not they’re mostly modern even hi-tech advancements but every so often we have to give more than a cursory nod to the traditional, and especially when it’s of the quality of the gunslip and cartridge bag featured here. The name somewhat gives the game away as to the ‘traditional’ styling and design as the Buffalo River ‘Heritage Collection’ Canvas/Leather Gunslip and Cartridge Bag wouldn’t look out of place taken to any major rough shoot or manor.

Traditionally, shotgun and cartridge bags were always made from either full leather if you were going for top end quality, or the more popular and common variety made from two materials - canvas and leather – as are our Buffalo River ‘Heritage’ items. So besides a very fitting name, what do these two bags from the ‘Heritage Collection’ have to offer? The gunslip measures 52” long and is 8” wide at the opening which closes with an overflap and leather strap and brass buckle. There’s also an exterior adjustable leather security strap at this position that is stitched to the canvas, to ensure the shotgun inside is held firmly and given extra support. Talking of which, although the green high grade canvas is very heavy duty, the brown high grain leather is used at strategic positions to give extra protection and strengthen the slip. Obvious positions such as the muzzle, rear full open flap buckle fasten opening and at the mid section most likely to rub against your shoulder. Here you’ll also find a handy carry handle strap and a 1” leather strip runs from the strap almost the length of the spine adding strength at this point rather than the slip having a full rigid side.

The adjustable shoulder strap is manufactured from leather too, and though relatively slim is suitably comfortable.

The interior is wool lined. Yes, real wool, not your artificial synthetic reproduction, so the slip really is staying true to its Heritage name proving it both inside and out.

The ‘slip’ only has one exterior pocket measuring 6 ½” X 4 ½” 1 ¼”. Stated as being for a game diary or a hipflask pocket – to have included the latter would have been the icing on the cake, filled even better - but at these prices you can’t have it all.
Joking aside this is a very well made traditional style shotgun slip that can be teamed up perfectly with the Heritage Collection Cartridge Bag.

The Cartridge Bag

Made from the same materials as the slip, the cartridge bag measures 9 ½” X 6” X 4 ¼”. Like the slip it uses leather piping for style and added strength and has a large leather carry handle on the large top opening brass buckle down overflap. Two brass buckles can be found on either side for the leather and canvas shoulder strap supplied should you choose to use it. A light buff leather lining cossets 100 12g shotgun shells and, like the slip, all buckle and carry points are double riveted for extra strength.
Both these items can be bought separately or as a combo (much better deal) and of the similar traditional slips and bags of this kind I rate these amongst the best I’ve seen.
