Clenzoil Cleaning and Maintenance Products

Having previously reviewed some of the Clenzoil range of cleaning products, and being very impressed with them, I was keen to see what else they had to offer; so, I got my hands on a few of their other items. The accessories that they offer all seem to be particularly well thought out, presumably by shooters, and offer great solutions to some gun maintenance and storage issues.
The circular applicator is a piece of lamb’s wool, around five inches in diameter, designed for applying a good even coat of Clenzoil fluid with no detriment to any of the finishes on your firearms. It is certainly very soft, and you can buff a nice finish on your gun without leaving excess cleaning fluid on it. The applicator is a great size and allows you to finish off your gun without getting your hands dirty, but small enough to ensure you only apply Clenzoil where you want it. For the collector of fine firearms, or anyone who stores their guns for extended periods, this is a great item. You can use it on both the metal and wood surfaces of your firearms without risking and scratches or marks.
Another item great for the long-term storage of your long-gun, the sleeve is big enough to accommodate most guns, even with a scope fitted, and being silicone-coated it will not hold moisture. Unlike many gun storage socks, this one is made of material thick enough to protect your gun from the knocks and bumps that always seem to happen when you are putting them in or out of a crowded gun safe. Intended to be used in conjunction with Clenzoil cleaning products, the sleeve will hold the moisture out and keep the Clenzoil in, creating an environment ideal for the storage of guns. It is also great for protecting your gun in transit, inside a rigid case or gun slip.
As the name suggests, this stuff is primarily intended for use on the hinge pins on break-barrel shotguns, where there is a relatively large bearing surface which requires lubrication and protection. It works very well on any similar surface and adhered well and showed a great ability to stay put. Testing on a semi-auto Ruger 10/22 bolt it stayed put on all the bearing surfaces, even after firing a couple of hundred rounds and getting really warm and did not build up in isolated spots in the gun. Supplied in a small jar, it might seem very expensive for what you get, but a little bit really does go a very long way, so it is likely to last a long time. The manufacturers also describe this as the world’s best choke tube lube, a big claim, but having tested the jelly on other applications, I have no reason to question its validity.
For use out in the field, these patches, pre-soaked in Clenzoil liquid, are just the job. Supplied in a strong, screwtop pot, of approximately 75 patches, they make swabbing out the barrel much easier and save you having to carry both a bottle of solvent and separate patches. The patches are well and truly soaked and will remain wet as long as you keep the lid on the pot. If you need to clean out your barrel during shooting, or after your gun has got wet in the field, these are a very handy carry-along. They are also really convenient for use on the cleaning bench if you just can’t be bothered with separate patches and cleaning liquid.
This is a pull through type bore cleaner, which again offers a good cleaning option for in the field. It comes complete with a small bottle of Clenzoil fluid with a small dropper-type top. An integrated bronze brush loosens the fouling and then the heavy woven body of the Cobra sweeps it away. You can soak the cleaner in Clenzoil before you go out, and then keep it in a sealed container until you need it. Used in this way, the Cobra takes up almost no space in your pack and provide a very good level of cleaning without needing to carry a bottle of cleaner with you. In use, just a single pull through the barrel gives a reasonable clean, a couple of additional passes brings the barrel up like new and ready for the gun to be put back in its box. This item is also washable, which means that it can be reused over and over again.
With these items, Clenzoil have demonstrated that they have a good understanding of shooter’s needs and they have come up with some very handy bits of kit. The Cobra and the Field and Range Patch Kit are ideal for taking with you on shooting trips and the other items are great for gun care once you get home. With these items, you can clean, lubricate and store your guns, knowing that they are well protected and ready for their next outing.
