Helikon Gear

Helikon Gear

Helikon is best known for their high quality tactical and combat clothing, which is popular among UK shooters and outdoor enthusiasts. They are less well known for is their large range of accessories. The range includes all sorts of bits and pieces that are well worth taking along on a shooting trip, and here we take a look at just a few of them.

Triton wide water bottle

Holding 1-litre of fluid, this is a strong bottle with a wide mouth to make filling and drinking easier. The large screw cap has a loop attaching it to the bottle and the edge is grooved, making it easy to open, even with gloves on. A removable insert helps control the flow when drinking and also acts as a filter holding back larger bits of debris. Helikon describes the material as ‘almost indestructible’ and the bottle survived being dropped on a hard surface, while full, without cracking.

Defence flashlight

This compact flashlight is only 6” long but puts out a clear beam from its LED. It offers three modes; high, medium and strobe. The strong aluminium body has knurled areas on the outside to make it easier to grip and the switch is well positioned at the back of the unit. A clip on the side allows you to attach the flashlight to your clothing and the lens is protected by projections from the body around its perimeter. This is one very tough, compact and powerful flashlight.

Cobra (FC45) tactical belt

story continues below...

A belt does more than just hold up your trousers, it offers a handy place to hold equipment that you need to keep close to hand. The Cobra provides a very strong base for your gear and the nylon webbing is thick enough to carry a lot of weight without curling over like thinner belts do. At 1¾” wide it fits most belt loops and equipment attachment-points. The quick-release buckle is easy to adjust and, once set to the correct size, there is no slippage when you put it under tension. There are no holes in the belt, the buckle closes with a strong quickrelease mechanism.

Ammo bucket bag

Perfect for hauling large quantities of ammo to the range. This bag has a large main compartment, with a padded bottom for holding boxes of rifle/ shotgun ammunition. Within this compartment sits a detachable mesh bag, with a draw string closer, which is perfect for storing empty cases. A couple of little pockets are provided for smaller items and the bag comes complete with strong carry handles and an adjustable shoulder strap. Overall, a really practical and well thought out piece of kit.

Camp cup

At 850ml this is a large cup that will hold a full tin of soup or a decent sized brew. Made of aluminium it is lightweight but still tough and it is designed to be heated over a gas stove or camp fire. The folding handles are rubberised to protect you from burns and the loose fitting lid is ideal to keep heat in and flies out. Being so lightweight, and with the Helikon water bottle fitting inside it perfectly, the cup adds almost nothing to your pack and it provides a proper sized, well made, drinking vessel for you to heat up your soup or enjoy a coffee.

Accuracy shooting bag cube

This small shooting rest is supplied empty so needs filling with something like polystyrene beads. Once full it is still lightweight and yet provides a steady rest for your rifle. The non-slip base and the compression adjustment straps on the sides allow you to get stable in order to shoot more accurately on a variety of surfaces. This durable bag is made with quality materials and includes a YKK zipper. It can be taken just about anywhere, and you can attach it to your gun using one of the adjustment straps. Easier and lighter to carry than most gun rests, this is a really handy piece of kit to carry, whatever type of shooting you are doing.

Conclusion

The quality of all of the items tested certainly matches the high standard of Helikon’s clothing range. You definitely get value for money and the products will last. They all do exactly what they are designed to do and they do it well.
