Never a company to stand still, Henry Krank has added another name to the already impressive list of brands they carry. Their latest addition is Real Avid, an American company that manufactures a range of general gun cleaning products as well as kits dedicated to particular guns, like AK and AR platforms.

If you have several guns and like to keep all of your cleaning gear in one kit, then this is the product for you. Inside are cleaning jags and brushes for nine calibres, three brass rod sections with a detachable ergonomic handle and plenty of cleaning patches. All you need to add is a cleaning fluid. With the rod being in sections you can use one, two or three, depending on the length of your barrel. The handle is well shaped, better than any other examples I have seen. The greatest feature of this kit is that it has a decent case, which stands up properly and has dedicated compartments where each component securely clips in. This kit is perfect to keep in the car, so you have the gear to clean any gun, in case your usual gun-specific gear has been left at home.

Bore Boss

The pull-through ‘snake’design is nothing new, but Real Avid has added a couple of very clever features. Supplied in calibre-specific versions, the pull-through is a good tight fit in the bore. To enable you to drag it through more easily, they have included a well designed circular handle which attaches to the end of the cable. It provides increased grip, even with wet hands, so you can clean the bore with minimal effort. Also, the whole snake is stowed inside the handle, behind a flexible rubber cover which is flipped back to access it. This feature keeps everything clean and tidy and stops cleaning fluid or dirt getting everywhere. This is the best tool of its type I have used.

Smart Brushes

The set of eight brushes includes four phosphor bronze and four nylon. They are shaped to fit into all the nooks and crannies of your guns where deposits might be hiding. The different designs have been cleverly thought out and areas like slide rails and extractor recesses are easily reached. All of the brushes have scrapers on the other end, also shaped to reach into small areas of your gun, making it possible to root-out powder and lead deposits more effectively.
