NexTorch T6A Tactical Kit

NexTorch T6A Tactical Kit

Gun-mounted torches are seemingly ten a penny these days and offer a definite short to mid-range solution for night shooting. Illumination technology in this area now offers us pretty much a hi-power/output hand torch with few weight/size penalties when compared to the larger and more powerful gun lamps.

Though the name of NexTorch is not a new one to me as they make some quality torches their T6A Tactical (hunting) Kit was a bit of an eye opener, in terms of both price and effectiveness. The package is simple but comprehensive with the T6A torch, figure-8 clamp, spare lamp head, Allen key, 2 x NTR123A batteries and a remote pressure pad switch with Velcro pads. All this coming in at sub £50.

Typical Build

The T6A is made from hi-strength aluminium alloy with a hard anodised black finish. The standard tail cap offers momentary ‘press & light’ function with it needing to be screwed all the way in for full on operation. The bulb is a 6 volt, Xenon, incandescent type with an output of 80-lumen and a run time of 2-hours; the inclusion of a spare is a nice touch! The unit measures 5 x 1” with a 34mm head and glass lens and weighs 4.03oz without batteries. This is not a particularly modern build as it’s near the same spec as my old SureFire Centurion, but is well made and tough.

However, adding to this is the ability to gun-mount it. This consists of the tactical (remote/pressure pad) switch that simply replaces the tail cap unit. The Fig-8 clamp will allow fitting to barrels, scope body tubes and even tubular shotgun magazines. For the test I mounted it on my Remington 870 pump-action shotgun to see how tough it was… I tend to use this as my close range boar gun with 12-gauge rifled slug - or with BBs for those keen foxes that get called in too close for a rifle to be easily deployed.

Takes a Licking

Setting it up on the mag tube I attached the Velcro pads to the forend. The beam much to my surprise will reach out to a solid 50-yards with enough illumination to shoot by. I reckon on a clear night it might even push to 70/75-yards. NexTorch quote a maximum range of 144-meters, which I think is over egging it a bit. But for the short range hunter it makes a neat little combo. Running a few rounds of slug through the Remy did not seem to bother the T6A, nor did the recoil cause the clamp to slide or the torch to move within it.

Overall this is a cracking little gun torch kit. OK it has not got the range of similar and perhaps more hi-tech and expensive systems. But it works and is tough and at sub-£50 given you work within its parameters it’s an absolute bargain.

PRICE: £42
FOR - Compact and practical gun torch kit
AGAINST - Limited effective range
VERDICT - Great value, for the shotgunner, rimfire or airgun hunter
