Ikam Glasses

Ever wished you could prove to your family and friends that you were hitting those infeasible clays or you were the one connecting effortlessly with the highest pheasants of the day? Well now you can, courtesy of these new i-Kam Xtreme video shooting glasses from Garlands. Available with either black or camo frames and complete with clear or smoked interchangeable lenses, a miniature 3 mega pixel, pinhole CMOS video camera and microphone have been built into the bridge section.

Open the zippered case and all you initially see are a pair of ‘blade’ style shooting glasses - in this instance complete with a fashionable camouflage finish and two pairs of lenses. Look a little closer though and you suddenly see a small camera lens centrally situated along with two deeper than usual shafts that house all the easily operated recording equipment and inbuilt rechargeable, three hours of constant operation batteries, the USB port is situated in the left shaft as is the single button control, the two indicators that signify you’re up and running plus a slot that allows you to fit a larger, 8GB capacity memory card.

Lightweight

Weighing just over an ounce, these are as comfortable and protective as any shooting glasses I’ve worn. By depressing the small button atop the left shaft, the camera and microphone spring into life, the inbuilt 4GB memory recording at 25 frames per second for a maximum of two hours. Once back home, plug the i-Kam’s into your computer courtesy of the supplied lead and the download is instant into Windows Media, Quicktime, Real Player or Storm Codec, every second of your recent outing replayed in every detail, the transfer itself wiping the i-Kam’s memory so the glasses are ready and able for your next on – screen epic.

Replay Your Day

Apart from the ability to visually prove just how good a shot you actually are, the i-Kams also serve a practical purpose. Besides providing eye protection, they are an ideal way to evaluate your own shooting. The three mega pixel reproduction is genuinely impressive as is the quality of the sound recording. Combine all the i-Kam features together and once back home you can replay your latest round of clays or day’s driven shooting as often as you like and see for yourself exactly where your muzzles were in relation to the target so if you were missing them you can appraise as to exactly why, the definition of the on – screen footage as captured at the exact moment of truth is indisputable.

Besides the fun and entertainment the i-Kam’s provide, usage over a variety of situations more than obvious, their ability to provide worthwhile and often valuable, educational footage is actually irrefutable, capturing exactly what happened and the exact moment it took place.

I regard the i-Kam as a serious piece of coaching equipment that has allowed me to take a close look at my own technique and advise some of my shooting companions on exactly where they’re going wrong. And let’s face it; at £178.45 for the camo versions or £165.95 for the black frames, they cost no more than a standard set of quality shooting glasses whilst offering considerably more advantages.
