The Paraframe lock knife has been a staunch favourite in the Gerber roster for many years and to celebrate, the company has decided to launch a set of Special Edition Gerber Paraframe knives with Mossy Oak: Break-Up Country Digital Printed Handles. The combo pack consists of a Paraframe I SE and a Mini Paraframe FE, both of which are a frame lock design.
The first major feature with a frame lock is that a portion of the handle moves to lock the blade tang. Because of the thickness of the locking portion of the frame, the blade is held securely. The stainless steel handle is strong and is ‘skeletonised’, making it lightweight. The coating used provides extra corrosion resistance and is less reflective. Both knives hold high carbon steel, clip point knife blades and feature pocket clips.
The Mini weighs 40-grams and has a 2.36”, fine-edge blade that deploys with a thumb nick. On the larger Paraframe I, the blade is part serrated, measures 3” and the whole tool weighs 73-grams. It also has dual thumb studs for a one-handed opening.
So, you have two blades of a similar design that will be of use in many field situations. The ergonomic handles feel good in the hold and both knives balance well. It’s also worth noting that due to the nature of the handle design, both are very easy to clean, so are ideal for gutting, skinning and the part preparation of game.
