Cold Steel Click N Cut Hunter

› One multi-purpose fixed-blade knife is generally the way most people go, with just one blade suitable for managing most tasks, instead of carrying a set of different tools, each with a specialised function. More knives mean carrying more weight, so knives with interchangeable blades are a good option and make a lot of sense.
Small but perfectly formed
The Cold Steel Click N Cut Hunter is a compact knife system that comes with three interchangeable blades: a gut hook, a bowie style, and a standard utility blade. Other blade types can also be purchased separately. Each blade is 2.3” long and made of 420J2 stainless steel. They are supplied razor sharp and ready to go, plus are deep and thick enough to be surprisingly rigid and durable.
The bright orange ABS handle makes it very hard to lose, and it can be cleaned with boiling water with no risk of damage. It is a relatively small handle, at just 4” long, but it is stout and provides a nice secure grip, even with wet hands.
With this type of knife, the potential weak spot is where the blades are connected to the handle, but Cold Steel has significantly strengthened this area with its Tri-Ad locking system, to ensure a strong connection. When the blade is attached to the handle, it clicks reassuringly and there is no movement in the joint, creating a strong and functional tool that operates like a fixed-blade knife. The blade is released by depressing the lock bar release on the back of the handle, just like the bar on a lock-back folding knife, while pulling the blade away from the handle.
Sheath storage
Another common flaw with interchangeable blades is the safe storage of spares. This is another issue that Cold Steel has addressed intelligently by providing rigid and safe storage within the Secure-Ex sheath. Deep slots on the outside of the sheath fully enclose the sharp section of the blades, with only the locking mechanism part exposed for easy extraction when needed. There are even instructions on the side of the sheath that tell you which part of the blade to grip when removing it.
The Secure-Ex sheath is good quality and holds the knife and the blades securely, with a Velcro strap around the knife handle for additional peace of mind. It too can be easily cleaned with boiling water after it might have been contaminated by dirty blades.
Conclusion
This is a surprising knife. It’s a useful tool with a very secure and effective blade-change system, plus comes in at an incredibly low price. At just over £35, and with sets of replacement or different blades coming in at around £22 for three, it is a re-useable tool at a disposable tool price, meaning you could easily replace it every year without breaking the bank.
