Helle Torodd Limited Edition

Helle knives are undeniably some of the best designed and well-made available, with a simplicity and straightforwardness that makes them something to behold. If you are a collector then they will no doubt be of interest, but they are also such useable and workmanlike knives that you do have to put them to use rather than just display them on a shelf.

Identity

Named after Torodd Helle, the son of the company’s founder, this is a substantial knife measuring approximately 8 ½” long with a triple laminated, mirror-polished, stainless steel blade just over 4” in length. The handle is made up of layers of curly birch and leather (dyed green) which gives it a very striking appearance and, perhaps more importantly, a good non-slip grip. Although there are no finger grooves on the handle, a very nicely shaped palm-swell around the middle section helps to give a really nice fit and feel in the hand. The blade is a simple straight design, it is 3mm thick, with the very slightest drop point, scandi grind, and it comes extremely sharp and ready to go.

The knife is supplied with a top-quality brown leather sheath, with the stitching picked out in the same green as the leather spacers on the knife handle, a very nice touch! This adds to the overall appearance of this well-presented tool and it is designed and made to hold the knife very safely and securely.

Sharp

Razor-sharp would be an understatement as the blade has a superb cutting edge and just as importantly, it stays sharp cut after cut even on tough materials like leather and rubber. Jointing meat and filleting fish with precision and ease; this is very much a knife for all situations. Keeping the blade sharp is relatively effortless and the very well defined grind is easy to follow and maintain.

Conclusion

This item is one of a limited production of just 800, making it particularly appealing to collectors, and it comes in a very nice presentation box tube. Torodd’s signature is beautifully engraved on the side of the blade, and a quality cleaning cloth and sheath are also included. This is a very useable knife and it would be ideal for field-dressing game, with its very strong point and supersharp edge. Helle has done it again here and produced another superb knife.
