Maserin Scout

Maserin Scout

story continues below...

Anyone looking for a UK legal carry knife needs to look at the new Maserin Scout from Heinnie Haynes. Seriously, this is a superbly designed and executed knife for the UK market. For a start, it has the less than 76.2mm, nonlocking blade, which is in D2 tool steel. This is cheaper than specifically designed knife steels and is ‘semi stainless’, i.e. it will patina if not looked after. However, the Scout is under forty quid, thanks to the use of D2. The blade is a drop point with a lovely flat grind and sharp. There is a nail nick on the left-hand side and, safety wise, the blade has a 90-degree stop. Its tumble satin finish stops it from showing marks on the blade in use and the scales are one of my all-time favourite materials, canvas Micarta, a very tough material that has a better ‘feel’ than wood or metal. It is a course weave on the Scout’s Micarta but that I think adds character. You get a 3.9mm lanyard hole, which makes it better for carrying. Heinnie Haynes sent me the Green and of course Orange but it also comes in Red or Blue, all the colours are a bit subdued. It’s a Reddy Orange and the Blue looks almost Black. Fit and finish is excellent for the price, get them while there’re hot!

Thanks to Richard and Bruce at Heinnie Haynes for help in production of this article.
