Based on their successful Native folder, is Spyderco’s Shaman PIN (C229GP) plain edge, also available in the fully-serrated Spyderedge build, which offers aggressive cutting abilities. It uses a 3 5/8” spear point blade made from CPM® S30V® stainless steel with a full-flat grind. Typically, there’s the signature, large, round thumb-opening hole, which makes one-handed operation a doddle. The handle uses an inner, steel skeleton with G10 scales and is open topped; engagement is by a top-mounted, high-strength Compression Lock™ set behind and above the pivot pin. The handle is long at 4.67” and contours the hand nicely, there’s also a forward finger choil, with jimping, with more on top of the blade to offer thumb purchase when you need to apply more pressure and control. The finish is dull with all the metal components getting a stone-washed finish, the handle is matte black, which although smooth to the touch is none the less secure in the hand. There’s also a four-position clothing clip that offers tip UP/DOWN and LEFT/RIGHT carry options. In use, the handle is plenty long enough for good address and control and the blade is deep and strong. Weighing in at 5.2 oz and 8.25” open, this is a practical, mid-sized folder with plenty of strength and ability.
