Leatherman Revel Multi Tool

Leatherman Revel Multi Tool

You’d think there’d come a point where companies would run out of ideas to create a new product to join the many that have gone before and are still available. However, some have an ace or two up their sleeves and Leatherman with the latest Rebar multi have gone for strength and versatility. In fact it bridges the gap between the Super Tool 300 and the Charge trio!

ICONIC BOX

With the Rebar, Leatherman aficionados will immediately recognise the iconic, box-like body and sloped-neck design found on the Super Tool 300 and Micra. The Rebar rounds out Leatherman’s classic ‘heritage’ line of products by offering one in each size category. Just like the Super tool 300, the pliers have been optimised for strength and feature replaceable hard-wire cutter inserts - a first for a 4” multi-tool from them.

The name suits the build as a rebar is a metal post that reinforces concrete used in construction.

Measuring 4” closed and weighing 6.7oz you immediately realise this is a serious and relatively compact sized multi-tool that holds pretty much everything a hunter requires. On operating this butterfly opener it’s plain to see and feel this is a fully featured and well designed workhorse. As I mentioned, you have the usual needle-nosed and regular pliers, hard wire cutters and strippers but even these look slightly tougher and chunkier than on other models.

KIT LIST

The Rebar uses the inner handles to hold its tools and once open you can choose from a double-sided file, small and medium flat head screwdrivers, Phillips driver, awl, 2 ½” plain edge clip point blade, 2 ½” serrated blade, can /bottle opener, a 2 ½” wood saw and a lanyard ring. All are deployed using thumb nicks or lugs.

I mention the full length of the cutting edges due to the fact all tools are extended from the pivot point for ease of use. This gives more torque for some and more length to get a blade where it’s required, in some cases you’ll be glad of this as you’ll find it easier to cut and saw. The bladed tools have approximately ¼” before the cutting edge begins. This makes a big difference to the way the multi-tool can be used and like Leatherman’s Blast the screwdrivers are also elongated so making reaching screws a tad easier and as mentioned allowing you more torque.

In my opinion this isn’t a case of releasing a multi-tool for the sake of it, as it fills a definite niche in the company’s roster. Everything about it says strength and in field practicality. It comes in a Nylon or Leather pouch and has a 12-month guarantee.
