Clothing from the Jack Pyke of England brand, seems to be everywhere at the moment, and when you consider how the name has surged up the popularity board in the last couple of years particularly, it’s a major achievement for the company. Undoubtedly a triumph of marketing; yet any close examination of their produce, soon reveals that there’s real substance behind the eye catching advertising.
Under review here is the company’s 3 in 1 Jacket, and whilst the model shown was supplied in English Oak camo pattern, it also comes in a tasteful matt green. The English Oak pattern incidentally, is constructed using the brown and green tones of the late autumn and winter months apparently, with a view to the user blending in with the British countryside environment.
Inner/Outer or Both
Great versatility comes with this product, which consists of an outer coat, and an inner fleece. The two garments can be worn separately as individual items in their own right, or together, for maximum warmth and protection, and some neat design work allows for this to happen.
The outer shell is made from 100 percent polyester brushed tricot, with a laminated membrane, and the result is something called Stealth Fabric, which by virtue of its multi layered construction, offers quite hi-tech properties to the outdoor sportsman. The idea is that the jacket is completely waterproof and windproof, yet remains capable of breathing and wicking away moisture from the wearer. I still find this type of outdoor clothing can be a little over warm on certain days, yet with the removable fleece option here, most bases are pretty well covered.
Comfort is at a premium, yet the features list is equally impressive. A full length main zip, and storm flap features on the outer coat, with large cargo pockets (featuring cartridge straps), 2 hand warmer pockets, 1 internal chest pocket, and a large fold down water proof seat flap/ game pocket, to the rear. The sleeves are elasticated with inner cuffs and Velcro sleeve adjusters, so further snugness is assured. In addition, an emergency hood is stored away in the collar.
Removing or adding the internal fleece is simple, as the two connect via full length zips. In addition, the neck and sleeve points also feature interlocking pop down loops, to guarantee a good marry up, so the fitting and design is definitely no half measure.
The Fleece itself is constructed from 100 percent laminated polyester, and features 2 front pockets, 2 large internal pockets, and an elasticated drawstring in the hem.
Where the main outer jacket is concerned, for those unfamiliar with this type of modern material, all I can say is that the utter softness and cosiness belies the hard wearing efficiency on offer. Indeed, it’s amazing to think that this type of super soft fabric is actually 100 percent waterproof - yet the advanced design means just that.
The fleece on its own offers the advantage of camo, yet I would wear a little padding underneath, if I was to shoot in it. The outer coat feels good, and that super soft material is not only silent to move around in, but allows full unrestricted movement. Having got caught out in a spell of unseasonally mild winter weather, whilst testing this kit, and wearing the jackets combined I might add, I started to overheat just slightly, so the efficiency of what is effectively a layer system, with trapped air acting as an insulator, soon becomes obvious. Gauging the elements, and dressing accordingly, is clearly the way forward. This 3 in 1 just gives you the options at a stroke.
In short, this is a terrific piece of kit and having seen and felt it in action, the sheer quality, comfort and features included, means it has to come highly recommended.
