The Direct Action Ghost Mk 2 is an extremely durable, yet lightweight pack with some great features. In addition to the 28L capacity of the main part of the backpack, there is an additional 3.5L of space in the detachable pocket organiser, which is attached via straps to the front of the main unit.
The organiser has multiple storage compartments for holding smaller items, while the main backpack has larger spaces for bigger items.
The main compartment is accessed via a large two-way YKK zip and consists of a single spacious section, with one internal mesh pocket and a slot for a hydration bladder. There is also a sturdy strap with a quick-release buckle to suspend the bladder and prevent it from slumping to the bottom of the backpack.
On the front of the pack, there is another simple compartment, accessed via a single zip, which has no divisions inside and is ideal for gloves, hats or other items that you might need to get to quickly. Above this, there is a dedicated eyewear compartment with a soft lining to prevent lenses from getting damaged.
On the sides of the backpack, there are small pockets with Velcro closures and very strong, elasticated rims to hold drinks containers securely so they do not fall out.
On the back of the pack is a large concealed compartment with a hanger strap for a second water bladder, and this ability to carry two water supplies is especially useful when you are out all day in hot weather. It can also be used to carry spare clothing or flat items like maps or targets.
The detachable pocket is effectively a large admin pouch, featuring seven pockets and four slots for pens and similar items. It would be ideal for holding a full first aid kit and, being removable, can easily be taken directly to where it is needed.
It is secured to the main backpack with four adjustable webbing straps featuring quick-release buckles, along with elasticated shock cord running down either side. The space between the two sections can be adjusted to accommodate anything from a helmet to coats, shooting mats, or even a tent.
There are several compression straps to prevent the contents from moving around, and numerous external fixing points are provided for attaching additional items.
The back of the pack is heavily padded with a Combat Vent System for enhanced ventilation, and the low-profile shoulder straps and detachable hip belt are also padded and shaped for comfort. Even with a heavy load, this backpack is very comfortable to carry.
There is also a very strong carry handle on the top.
The Direct Action Ghost Mk 2 Backpack is a well-designed piece of kit, with practical features such as the capacity to carry two hydration bladders and a detachable pocket organiser. The build quality is exceptionally high, and details such as the oversized storm flap over the main compartment zip reflect excellent attention to detail.
