Viper’s first camo design, V-Cam is an established non-terrain specific pattern that gives more than a nod towards the military favoured Crye Industries Multi-Cam design. As V-Cam has been with us approximately five years, it’s now obviously well-established, and recently derived from it comes V-Cam Black (VCBK), a black based camo interspaced with random splashes of two distinct contrasting shades of greenish/grey.
This distinctive tactical ‘Black OPS’ look has obvious uses but will also appeal to those who are drawn to wearing similar non-aggressive camo that’s long been available and fashionable as urban street wear.
Viper already offer a handful of key garments in this design, three of which will need little introduction as they’ve risen to become stalwarts in the brand roster, those being the Mesh-Tech T-Shirt, Armour Top and Fleece Hoodie.
The 100% Polyester Mesh-Tech tops are lightweight and of a stretch fit for comfort. The standard T has a crew neck and short sleeves while the long-sleeved Armour boasts a ¼ length front zip. The key feature of the Mesh-Tech as a material is its wicking/quick dry capability, and they’re both available in sizes S-XXXL in a wide range of colour options as well as VCBK.
The 260g Polyester Fleece Hoodie is always a very useful garment to wear alone or as an outer part of a layer system. Its key features are the full draw string hood, large front double-sided pouch pocket and the thumb holes at the elasticated cuffs. When required, the latter allow the cuffs to part cover your hands without being overly long as to affect finger dexterity. The garment is also tactically complemented by Velcro sleeve patches and Viper icon patch. It’s available in the same sizes as the Ts, a selection of colours and a good choice to wear over the garments previously mentioned, should you require extra body insulation.
A major new item in the Viper catalogue are the GEN2 Elite Trousers. These are a second generation upgraded design of the original Elite’s and are mainly manufactured from Ripstop Polycotton. This hard-wearing material is a 60/40% polycotton mix but the build also uses a material known as V-stretch found around the knee sections, seat and sides allowing for flexibility and additional comfort.
The high padded waistband has wide belt loops including front Velcro top fastening point with full YKK zip fly. To ensure an even more tailored fit internal adjuster straps are cleverly built into the inside of the handwarmer pockets to raise or lower the external ABS knee pads, which offer protection and durability in an active situation. The pads can also be cinched close to the knees by Velcro fasten down retention straps.
The trousers also have Velcro ankle adjust straps which combined with the side and pad height adjusters offer multiple adjustments so they can be modified to the wearers own build for comfort and feel.
Stowage is catered for by 2x handwarmer pockets, 2x deep bellow cargo pockets with inner felt lined utility compartments, 2x slim front thigh admin pockets and 2x rear seat pockets. All except the top side pockets have Velcro fasten cover flaps. Available in Sizes 28- to 42-inches and colours V-cam, Woodland and of course VCBK.
To sum up, Viper VCBK is a very appealing camo that will be of interest to many sectors of the shooting sports including airsoft plus it has a lot of street-smart appeal. The quality of manufacture is high. Overall design is well thought out, with the apparel having many useful attributes, as well as being hard wearing and practical.
