Protektor Grom Unique 929 Boots
- Last updated: 12/03/2024
Although essentially a ‘lightweight’ boot, the Protektor Grom Unique 929 is extremely durable and tough. A pair weighs just 1.2kg, which might make you think they are not going to be very strong, but when it comes to performance, they are a good match for many heavier boots.
Comfort and support
The velour leather upper gives the boots a nice appearance and the oversized toe protector ensures that the leather does not get damaged at the front on rough terrain or when kneeling. The PU and rubber sole is shock-absorbing and flexible, to ensure it fully supports the foot and to protect against injury, and a replaceable insole adds to the comfort.
The upper section of the boot is higher at the front and slopes down at the sides to the lower rear section. This makes them particularly comfortable and non-restrictive. There is also a loop at the back to help with pulling the boots on. The six pairs of metal eyelets work very smoothly and are well-spaced so that you can get the boots correctly tightened. The tongue is gusseted, to enhance the water resistance of the boots, and it lays on the front of your foot comfortably.
Water-resistant
The boots have a membrane lining that is breathable for added comfort, and they are reasonably water resistant, although not fully waterproof. The inside padding is generous and once they are on and laced up, your feet feel fully supported, held, and protected. After you have worn the boots a few times, you can feel that they have started to shape to your foot, making them even more comfortable.
Although the boots are described as water resistant, rather than waterproof, they will keep the rain or water from wet grass out, but they are not intended to be fully submerged in water for an extended period.
Practical protection
The soles feature ‘self-clean technology’, whereby the tread is shaped so that mud does not stick to it. Also, the tread pattern is very effective at providing a good grip on a variety of surfaces. The soles are also acid, disinfectant, and heat-resistant, which could come in handy!
When worn, they feel more like a heavy-duty training shoe than a boot, and they are far more comfortable than you might expect. You can feel the boot is in contact with the entire surface of your foot, so it is fully supported, but it does not feel restrictive or tight.
Although primarily a ‘work boot’, the Protektor Grom Unique 929 boots are extremely practical for most outdoor activities. They are very comfortable for all-day wear, they give a high level of protection to your feet and ankles, and they keep your feet warm. Being so flexible, and self-cleaning, you can also drive while wearing these boots, so you do not need to change them for the journeys to and from your activities.
