Jack Pyke Sherpa Fleece Jacket Gen2

Jack Pyke recently released a new range of garments under the Sherpa Fleece banner. The first ones to be released were the Sherpa Fleece, Sherpa Fleece Hoodie, Gilet, and Sherpa Fleece Jacket. These were soon complemented by the company as they added the Sherpa Fleece Gilet, Sherpa Fleece Junior Gilet, Sherpa Fleece Chunky Gilet, and even a Sherpa Fleece Dog Coat! Anyway, due to the popularity of the Sherpa Fleece, the company has now launched an upgraded version of the jacket; the Sherpa Fleece Jacket Gen2.

Not just a fleece

As I’ve mentioned in previous reviews of this type of fleece, the Sherpa Fleece is made from a stretch polyester fabric that has a textured look, just like a fleece straight off a sheep’s back, so to speak. Also, when used as the outer of the garment, as we see here, it’s sometimes known as a deep pile fleece. Overall, it’s very appealing and it feels soft to the touch.

It has the classification of a 300g polyester fleece, making it mid-weight. However, due to the materials it’s made from, it’s quite light in weight considering the warming properties it offers, non-restrictive when it comes to movement, and very comfortable to wear. Also, when it comes to texture, the nylon inner lining is very reminiscent of microfleece, making it even more comfortable and snug.

Thoughtfully designed

Obviously, the Gen2 shares many features with the others in the range, with the main one being the materials used in manufacture, as previously detailed. However, more thought has been put into the Gen2 to make it an even more desirable option. Externally, it differs from the original due to its contrasting flat-face polyester material. This is sensibly proportioned and can be found all around the high neck and along the elbows, providing extra strength, durability, and breathability.

The jacket also features elasticated knitted cuffs that help to keep out drafts and seal in the warmth. Plus, it has a full-length double zip with a cloth pull assist that allows for ease of access and temperature control. The neck is very high, so when fully zipped up, it ensures drafts are excluded in this area and that you’re fully protected. Thoughtfully, Sherpa Fleece is used to line the inner of the neck for added comfort. Storage is catered for by two lower side pockets that are zipped and come with pull assists.

Conclusion

Though very traditionally styled, the Sherpa Fleece Jacket Gen2 has a very appealing identity of its own. It has all the features expected of a garment of this type, and the contrasting panels are as functional as they are cosmetically appealing. For the hunter, fisherman, or general outdoorsman, it’s a quality garment that is well-priced.
