Seeland Avail Jacket Trousers & Cap

Seeland Avail Jacket Trousers & Cap

Seeland is known as the sister company to Harkila but is very much an entity in their own right and not a brand to be considered as a cheaper alternative. The reason being, they certainly don’t scrimp on quality of manufacture or materials used.

Some new additions to their range are the Avail Jacket, Trousers and Cap, which are designed primarily with the deerstalker in mind. They are very useful for Autumn and Spring, when the weather is milder, though, during the colder months, they’re still a quality partnership over a layering system.

Brush up

The garments are manufactured from brushed tricot, one of the most well-known and respected materials used in the manufacture of clothing for the hunter. This is because it’s very soft and more breathable than both polyester and nylon. However, although Tricot jackets tend to be heavy, warm and good at wicking away sweat, in this instance, Seeland has managed to produce a tricot jacket and pair of trousers that aren’t heavy but still afford the protection required from wind and rain. Plus, they are highly breathable and very quiet in use.

They both feature Seeland’s 2-layer build, which includes the windproof and waterproof, SEETEX Membrane. This has a water column pressure rating of 10,0000/10,000mm, meaning it’ll keep you dry in all but the heaviest, prolonged downpour.

The Avail Jacket features a generously sized removable hood with an extended curved brim. It also has a high stand-up collar and the hood, when attached, uses elasticated drawcord adjusters, plus a wide front Velcro fastening neckpiece.

Storage is catered for by 2x large front pockets and a radio pocket on the left upper chest, all with waterproof zips. There’s an inside pocket with a press stud closure for items such as a mobile phone or rangefinder. The jacket has a two-way heavy-duty zip opening with chin guard, Velcro strap cuff adjusters, an elasticated drawstring lower hem, plus all zips have cord pull assists.

To the bottom

The trousers feature a metal button fastened zip fly, generous waistband and wide belt loops. Storage is catered for by 2x slanted front pockets and a large pocket on the left thigh, all featuring waterproof zips with cord pull assists, so they’re easy to access with gloved hands and/or cold fingers. They also have well-sized Velcro-adjust ankle straps.

The baseball-style Avail Cap is manufactured from the same materials as the other garments in the series and therefore has the same level of wind and waterproofing protection. It also features an elasticated toggle adjust drawstring at the rear to ensure a perfect fit, complimenting the other attire perfectly.

Conclusions

The Seeland Avail garments are extremely well manufactured and certainly fit for purpose. Both Jacket and trousers feature contrasting side panels of a different shade of green, which helps give a stylish look as well as breaking up what would be a full uniform colour. Although specifically designed for the deerstalker, seeing as every hunter requires stealth, I can see these garments being of interest to other hunting disciplines.
