Highlander Forces Harrier Backpacks

› When it comes to a practical backpack, it’s all about the access and the comfort of the carry, because if these two features don’t work for you, then the luggage just won’t measure up.
The Harrier is a fully opening ‘clamshell’ backpack system that provides quick and complete access to your kit. Multiple pockets allow you to optimise organisation, and free-flowing double zips on all three compartments give full access instantly. The very nicely padded air-mesh back and the wide and equally well-padded straps provide a good, comfortable carry. They certainly meet the criteria of accessibility and comfort.
Compartments and pockets
The main compartment is large and uncluttered, with two small mesh pockets on each side, a zippered mesh pocket on the back that’s repositionable on the large Velcro panel, and another zippered mesh pocket on the front. When fully unzipped, everything is accessible and laid out where you can see it.
The next compartment forward is also a double zippered clamshell arrangement, with an open pocket, three spaces for pens, plus one small, zippered mesh pocket. Above it is a large Velcro panel, for ID patches, and another zippered slip pocket lined with tricot, ideal for phones or glasses. The smallest compartment has the same access arrangement, with one deep zippered slip pocket and one larger mesh pocket inside.
The back of the pack is heavily padded, with three separate air-mesh panels spaced to improve airflow, and the wide and adjustable padded shoulder straps are curved correctly to ensure a secure and comfortable carry. An adjustable chest strap helps keep the load steady. Behind the air-mesh panel is another padded pocket, intended for a hydration bladder. It can also be used as a secure space to keep your wallet or other valuables.
The heavy-duty zips have extended pulls with large plastic loops to stay effective and easy to operate, even with gloves on. The front of the pack has six rows of MOLLE attachment loops and a large multi-purpose ABS plastic MOLLE Karabiner is included. There is also a strong carry handle on the top.
25 litre, 35 litre or 45 litre
The Harrier is available in three sizes, all laid out exactly the same. The only difference, apart from the volume, is that the largest pack has compression straps on either side (top and bottom) and a hip belt with heavily padded sections around the sides for improved comfort when carrying a bigger load.
Conclusion
Both the packs tested are very well made and well finished, with all of the seams and the zips neatly stitched in. They are well laid out, with clear and easy access being the priority, and there are enough pockets to allow you to carry all you need where you can get at it easily. Both packs sit very comfortably on your back, and the waistband on the larger version certainly helps to stabilise a heavier load.
