Helikon Rangemaster Gear Bag Review
- Last updated: 08/07/2025
Ideal for a full day at the range, the Helikon Rangemaster Gear Bag is a huge piece of luggage that can hold absolutely everything you might need and is a great alternative to carrying your gear in separate bags.
It has a rigid, reinforced bottom, walls with removable stiffening plates, and additional detachable stiffened dividers, all of which make the bag relatively rigid and self-supporting.
The very large, lockable main compartment can be subdivided with the supplied panels so that you can customise the layout to hold all your gear securely and keep it easily accessible. The compartment is accessed via a two-way zip around three sides, which allows you to fold the lid back out of the way and fully expose the contents.
On top of the lid, there is a further zip giving access to a large, flat pocket that’s ideal for holding documentation. On the underside of the lid, there are three zippered bellowed pockets.
On the outside of the bag, on either end, there are large, squared-off pockets with two-way zips, and one has a pull tab to allow fast, one-handed opening, making these pockets ideal for storing a first aid kit with quick and easy access.
At the back of the bag, there is a single, large flat slip pocket with a Velcro fastening along the top edge, making it ideal for carrying targets or other paperwork safely.
To the front of the bag, two large square pockets, with flaps secured with Velcro, sit on the front of a much larger single compartment accessed via a double zip. The front can be opened and laid flat, giving full access to a vast administration compartment, which features a large Velcro panel and elasticated pockets for smaller items like pens, multi-tools, and phones. The front flap of this compartment holds three more pockets: one long, with a zip, and two smaller square ones with flaps secured with Velcro. This area of the bag is all made from a wipe-clean material, making it ideal for holding an extensive gun cleaning kit.
There are numerous Velcro panels on the outside of the bag and within some compartments, allowing you to attach patches or create additional subdivisions for better organisation.
The Rangemaster has two very wide and strong carry handles, and an equally substantial shoulder strap, which is fully adjustable, heavily padded, and detachable. As the bag is so large and potentially heavy, the carry options have been designed to offer a comfortable way to transport it.
The bag is made of extremely rugged Cordura 500D and 1000D, with glove-friendly YKK zips throughout, and the total capacity is a huge 41 litres.
The Helikon Rangemaster Gear Bag is a well-designed and robust option for carrying all your equipment in a single piece of luggage. While it isn’t inexpensive, it offers excellent value and makes preparing for a day at the range far easier.
