Deben Whisper airgun silencers

Deben Whisper airgun silencers

Quite often so called super products usually command super prices; it tends to go with the territory! Not so Deben, and I take my hat off to them for their Whisper 130 and 180 moderators, which are well built, simple and highly effective, at a price that is near 50% lower than you might expect. The designations denote the length of the internal sound absorption chamber in millimetres so in actuality they measure 150mm and 200mm, 34mm in diameter including outer sleeve and weigh 114g and 147g respectively.

Rubber-Covered

story continues below...

Manufactured from high grade, black anodised aluminium, further protection is furnished by a protective rubber sleeve. They use the standard ½x20” UNF thread form, but if you want one for an Air Arms rifle - such as the popular S400/410 series - they include a slide-on adaptor for fitting to the barrel’s spigot end.

Suppression is achieved by sets of conical baffles held in place with a removable rear end cap with O-ring seal. The 130 has two and the 180 three. In use the pair proved highly effective and even the shorter Whisper 130 will cut the mustard down range easily too and its perfect for carbine-sized guns.

FOR - Build quality and effectiveness
AGAINST - Nothing at all
VERDICT - A highly important product for the airgun hunter

  • Fitted a 130 to my 2250 using 1/2inch unf adaptor readily available on ebay. Dramatic reduction in noise . Really pleased. Will look at getting another for my 2240.

  • I bought a Deben Whisper 180 "New Design" for my Walther LGV. When I screwed it on to the barrel it was clearly not straight, looked like a dogs hind leg. I fired just three shots through it, the point of impact moved about 50mm up and the same distance right and the group size spread right out, and this was at just 10m range. On examination it was clear that the silencer was so far off-line that the pellets were hitting the side of the outlet cap on the way out. As the shop I bought it from was 30 miles away I decided that rather than return the unit I would bore out the caps and internal washers to clear the path but the groups are still all over the place. Have since bought a Walther silencer, had to re-align the scope but the groups are as tight as without the silencer on. I would advise anyone buying a Deben unit to take their rifle with them and try the unit on for alignment before purchase.

  • I've had two or three Deben 180 silencers and found them excellent on springers. S hame they are not suitable for .25 cal.

  • Troll,
Yes, I did have to buy an adaptor from my gin shop about £8 with discount. It slides over barrel and locked with grub screws.

  • The Whispers are very good value, did you have to buy an adaptor?

  • My Crosmas 2240 makes a crack like a 9mm when it is .fired.Problem is I really did not want to spoil my gun's balance with a silencer.but also did not want to fall out with my neighbours. So I decided to research, and where possible test, various silencers for a) Sound absorbtion b) Compactness c) weight. To cut along story short, the Deben 130mm "Whisper" totally fills my requirement and I would recommend it in particular to 2240 owners.

  • I've used both of the Whisper silencers and found them to be very impressive too. It's nice that there are still some bargains around!

  • just picked up my new deben whisper 130 for 29.99.
just fired 10 or more shots through it and I am impressed not just by the sound reduction but also the build quality. In my opinion one of the best if not THE best sound moderator in this price range.
    You cannot fault it.
