Mora Craftline Robust Knife

Mora Craftline Robust Knife

Mora of Sweden are known for their value for money knives. They offer efficient, functional knives for both sporting and trade use – the Clipper and Companion models are particularly well known as all round utility/hunting knives. The Mora Craftline High Q range is no exception, with well designed fixed blade knives at very affordable prices – and that means under £15 each!

The thing that makes this particular model – the Craftline Robust - stand out from others in the range is that it is particularly tough and resilient… as they say, the clue is in the name ‘Robust’.  This is a very strong knife with a rigid 3.2mm thick, triple laminated carbon steel blade – most other Mora utility/hunting knives use 2mm stock steel. Looking down the spine of the knife, it’s easy to see the central hard carbon steel core and the two outer layers of softer but more resilient stainless steel. This gives a blade that will hold a very sharp edge without being too brittle.

The mildly clipped blade is 10.0cm (4” approx.) long and 2.0cm wide (at its widest point). It has a gently curved belly with a typical Scandinavian grind – a single 0.8cm bevel starting 1.2cm from the spine. The edge runs the entire length of the blade from the tip to the handle guard – there is no ricasso before the tang. This is where you normally find information, but on this knife it is etched on the flat of the blade; “MORAKNIV, Made in Sweden, Carbon Steel”

The light grey synthetic double-moulded, extra large handle is 12.5cm (almost 5”) long and has a textured high friction grip with a slight yield to it; the Morakniv logo is moulded in one side. The bolster’s single point guard and the base pommel are in contrasting black. The size and shape of the handle actually feels more comfortable when doing heavy or prolonged work.

The dark grey hard plastic scabbard has a mildly gripping throat, a drain hole in the base and large plastic clip for attaching to a waistband, bag edge or belt. This clip has a simple elongated hole in it, while the face of the scabbard has a corresponding ‘button’; this means that you can clip two Mora scabbards together, so you can carry two Mora knives/tools ‘in tandem’ on your belt. This is handy as you could carry this stiff, heavy duty ‘Robust’ with a springy Craftline ‘Flex’ knife, a serrated Craftline ‘Rope’ knife or even a Mora Chisel or Electrician’s knife.

The Mora Craftline High Q Robust is 22.6cm (approx.9”)  in total length and weighs 104grms (3.7oz). Amazingly the Robust is priced at just £14.95, and other Mora models are even cheaper!
