No matter what the season, rain can easily appear when out and about in the great outdoors. In that respect, to have dedicated rainwear with you is essential, whether that’s if setting out already wearing it or to have it packed ready for use.
Like hunters, anglers know the importance of quality outdoor clothing that gives optimum protection and/ or insulation from the elements. I’ve already looked at a few products from Speero, who now produce all manner of carp/ specimen fishing luggage and clothing. The first items I tested from the company were garments for use as a base layer under heavier outerwear. These included a t-shirt, armour top and fleece hoodie. This time I’ve had the chance to use and test the Sirius jacket and trousers, which are classed as dedicated rainwear. They are useful to shooters as they’re available in what many of us first began hunting in; DPM (Disruptive Pattern Camouflage).
Both garments featured are manufactured from 100% Taslon, a nylonbased polyester fabric with an extremely high water resistance. It’s also soft to the touch, breathable, windproof, and lightweight. Another build quality feature is they’re also fully mesh lined which results in them being extremely comfortable to wear.
The jacket features a fulllength front zip with double puller, plus a front zip baffle with hook and loop (H&L) closure. There’s also a zip removable hood with elastic drawcord, toggle adjusters and H&L fastening at the front. This generously sized hood also has an external, top rear position H&L strap, enabling a superb level of tailored fit, plus press stud side attachment for extra security.
The hem has an elasticated drawcord with toggle adjusters and the arms have H&L adjustable cuff straps for extra protection from the elements. Storage is catered for by a chest pocket and two lower side pockets. All have weatherproof zips, plus cord and rubber grip pull assists. Additionally, the temperature can be controlled thanks to well-sized, zipped, underarm vents.
The pants are of a typical over-trouser design and feature a strong elasticated waistband with drawcord and toggle adjuster. They boast a double layer shin impact area, have two top side pockets with weatherproof zips, plus cord and rubber pull assists. Both legs have generous 17” long boot zips, making them easier to get in and out of while still wearing boots. The bottom of which also has H&L ankle cuff adjusters to allow for custom-fit and further extend the weatherproof capabilities of the trousers.
The Sirius Jacket and Trousers are an extremely useful combination for any hunter and outdoorsman. They’re light, comfortable, well-featured, and easy to store. If you don’t need them immediately on the day, they’re ideal for having packed in a rucky, so as to be close to hand should the heavens open up.
