Harkila Pro Hunter Boots

Harkila Pro Hunter Boots

Amongst their extensive range of clothing and shooting accessories, Harkila also has a comprehensive choice of footwear. Indeed the name Pro Hunter will already be familiar to many as it’s a term we’ve come to associate with various items of their attire.

Model footwear

The Pro Hunter Ledge GTX measure 8 ½” at the front, dropping to 7” at the rear (shank) and are of a build that flexes, yet gives full support and protection to the ankle and lower calf area.

Manufactured from full-grain leather, they also feature a well-padded 2.2mm warm and durable Nubuck leather upper, plus they’re installed with a very high quality, fully waterproof, windproof and breathable Gore-Tex Ultimate membrane. It’s worth noting that this particular membrane is stronger and more hardwearing than previous Gore-Tex versions and that Harkila is the first company to bring it to the market.

Although the rugged build of the footwear is clear to see, the boots are also extremely comfortable, aided by the ultra-durable lining and padding in key areas, including the contrast side panels, upper and heel support.

Lacing system

The well-padded tongue has a wide throat for ease of putting on/off, while the lacing system comprises of 4-pairs of captive, articulating D-rings that stop at the lower part of the ankle, where your ankle moves as you move. A pair of open metal hasp fasteners are set back from the others, so the boot can be drawn securely to the foot, then two more pairs of open hasp retainers take you up to the top. There’s also an open metal hasp at the centre of the tongue to help retain its position and evenly distribute lace tension. The boots also include strong pull loops at the rear, plus a steel eye for attaching gaiters, to prevent wear to the laces.

The robust outer build transfers down to the very thick and deep cut semi-stiff Vibram XS Trek Rubber compound sole unit, which is also fitted with a very generous rand. Such is the design that it offers a very high level of all-around protection due to it running fully around the front toe section, where it also creates a strong toe buffer. It also rises up at the back to strengthen and fully protect the heel area.

The boots also feature a shock-absorbing midsole, for extra wearer comfort. The specialised Vibram Campos sole pattern combines to ensure solid footing and traction on a wide variety of terrain, while the enhanced flexing action offers a high level of comfort.

Conclusions

The Pro Hunter Ledge GTX are robust, tough, surprisingly lightweight and very comfortable to wear, making them suitable for a wide variety of hunting and outdoor activities. As for the price, top quality costs and if you take your hunting seriously then you’ll require some serious kit. When it comes to footwear, if you try to scrimp, your feet will surely let you know.
