ShooterKing Jacket and Gilet

Thomas Jacks are probably bestknown for the extensive range of Night Vision gear that they distribute but they also have protective eyewear, gloves, packs etc. They have recently taken on the impressive Shooter King brand of clothing. The range is certainly extensive; jackets, trouser, caps, fleeces, clay shooters vests etc. and there are items for both men and women. Shooter King say that they use the very best materials, including Cordura and Shoottex membrane technology to provide waterproof yet breathable garments where required.

I’ve been wearing a couple of the company’s items lately and I’ve been impressed! We’ve had some very cold weather of late (mid-January) with prolonged periods of sub-zero temperatures and very hard frosts overnight and into the mornings. The two Shooter King products in question are the Performance Gilet and Highland Jacket.

Performance Gilet

The stylish, lightweight gilet is made from 100% Polyester Micro-fibre fleece material that has had an anti-pilling treatment to keep it looking good for years and there’s a faux leather trim around the arm holes and collar, which extends down the front of the garment. A genuine YKK zip extends up the collar, so that you can really keep the draughts out. There are two large pockets on the front, ideal for shotgun cartridges or simply keeping your hands warm. The Gilet is comfortable to wear, over a shirt, or under a jacket when it’s really cold.

The Performance Gilet is available in Navy, Green, Bordeaux and Brown, in sizes small to 5XL and costs £29.95.

Highland Jacket

The Highland Jacket is another stylish garment made from 100% waterproof and highly breathable ‘Super Canvas’ (65% polyester, 35% cotton), complete with a Shoottex membrane. The highly practical jacket is ideal for all conditions and terrains and wouldn’t look out of place in a smarter environment either. The dark olive/brown colour is attractive and there are various useful pockets built-in. The two large front pockets have press-studs closures, augmented by magnets that secure the corners of the pocket flaps- neat! In the two large, zipped, breast pockets above, there are shock-cord adjusters that can be used to adjust the fit at the waist; the hem can also be adjusted in a similar way. There are two smaller, zippered pockets at the top part of the chest. There are two large pockets inside the jacket at the bottom and two smaller ones further up – this jacket really has a lot of storage space! There’s a small pocket on the left sleeve and a large waterproof pocket at the rear of the jacket that can be accessed via a zip on both sides; this pocket is ideal for carrying maps etc. The sleeves feature windproof cuffs and all the ZKK zips are water repellent too.

The detachable hood has a wired hood to keep the rain off the face, as well as ensuring good visibility; there’s nothing worse than a hood that constantly needs moving out of the way! The volume of the hood can also be adjusted by using the adjuster cord at the rear; a flap on the front of the hood can be closed using Velcro to really cinch the hood nice and tight against really foul weather.

The jacket is very comfortable to wear and looks stylish too. The Highland Jacket is available for men and women in a range of sizes, from small to 5XL and costs £229.95. There are matching trousers (£135.95) and a cap (£29.95) too.

Conclusion

The Performance Gilet and Highland Jacket are very well designed and manufactured garments and if they are indicative of the wider range (and I’m sure that they are!) I feel that we will be seeing a lot more from Shooter King in the future.
