Midwales Airsoft

We are MidWales Airsoft! We started as a team in 2014. We originally wanted to start MidWales Airsoft as a shop, but were given the opportunity to run a site and get a team together, so we did. We started to set up an onsite shop around 2½-years ago, and gradually expanded from there. We set up an online shop via our website just over a year ago and without loads of advertising we started doing well. Starting with parts and BBs, then moving into guns and pyro. We now do all the above, along with kit from Kombat UK and repairs, services and upgrades.

GM: What does the daily routine entail?

We get the tea and coffee on go, then open up! We usually get a fair amount of people through the shop; there tends to be a lot of people who don’t know the difference between air rifles and airsoft. We’ve also had a lot of people in who are now regular customers. We have quickly found that part of our routine is the social side of airsoft, so we have put in a sofa with tea and coffee area for customers who have travelled to us.

GM: Do you have a website as well as your walk-in shop; if so, what’s it like?

Yes, we have recently upgraded our website but because we are so busy in store we haven’t finished putting everything onto the web yet. We have multiple menus on the web site; shop, MidWales Airsoft Home site, MidWales Airsoft Team, England v Wales Game, and the All Wales event.

GM: What question do you get asked most often?

Are these air rifles? Is this Gas or electric? What fps is this?

GM: What’s the best thing about your job?

The best part by far is meeting so many different people, from all walks of life and what they bring to the world of airsoft. Also, it has to be the laughing and smiles on players faces when they are either getting a bargain or having a great game day.

GM: Dare we ask, what’s the worst thing about your job?

The lack of time spent at home!

GM: Do you sell just gear and clothing, or do you sell the whole package, accessories, and all?

We do our best to sell as many different products as we can, which is all of the above. We have also got plans to branch out in other directions, but we’re keeping this under wraps until we’ve made some final decisions.

GM: Do you have any main brands that you stock? If so, what are your favourites?

We stock Draft Club, Nuprol, Kombat UK, Enola Gaye and some local products we have made for us. My personal favourite is some of the guns we have in, plus items in the Kombat UK clothing range.

GM: I know you support a number of local airsoft sites; could you tell me more about that?

We do our best to help other sites; we have been known to help other sites on build days. We have done our best to bring smaller teams, with and without sites, together. We found helping other teams and sites makes game days at home or away feel like we have bonds with all the players.

GM: Do you offer a customisation or repair service, if so what kind of jobs can you carry out?

story continues below...

Yes, we offer most standard RIF related support, but we don’t do engraving or stippling work.

GM: What’s the single most commonplace repair/custom gear job you carry out?

We generally repair gears, replace or add mosfets. Oh, and occasionally we do some swearing, which is very commonplace!

GM: Do you carry out your own product testing?

Yes, whenever we are able to. We report to our team our findings. We are currently testing out some lanyards. GM: How often do you get to do this? Whenever we can; we pick items that will benefit players on outdoor sites and weed out the junk that gets pushed onto players as the ‘best thing since sliced bread’.

GM: What do you enjoy most about testing gear?

To find out for ourselves if products work for us on our site, or just in general; getting value for money for the customers and players is our goal!

GM: What bugs you most about the airsoft gear market?

The hype and some of the prices. Way too much at times!

GM: If you could change one thing about the tactical gear market, what would it be?

The fact that most of it is shipped into the country; I would prefer to deal with UK manufacturers and to support UK jobs.

GM: My thanks to you for putting up with my questions! To conclude, how do you see things developing in the future, both with the shop and with airsoft in general?

Our plan with the shop is to expand the range of products we sell. Our Pistol Club is growing at a huge rate, and we currently have 30 paid up pistol club members. So, we plan to expand the shop in the future. We have had an increase in players joining our team, plus an increase in players on other teams since we set up three-years ago; I feel the future of airsoft is very bright indeed. We know that airsoft has overtaken paintball, but I would go as far as to say paintball will further fade in the shadow of airsoft.
