The city of London is today a vast cosmopolitan metropolis, teeming with all the commercial trappings of a modern corporate centre for international banking. It is also a city teeming with history, if one knows where to look. The author of this work knows where to look when it comes to 17th Century London during the Civil War. This is an illustrated, easy to use guide book for enthusiasts to conduct a self-guided tour to those places of interest connected with the period. Despite the bombing from two world wars and modernisation, there is still a great deal to be seen.
Some of the locations are obvious, but this work reveals those places off the beaten track and explains how some places got their names. The great surprise is the 1642 battlefield of Turnham Green, within walking distance of Hyde Park. Spend some time in London with this book and you’ll look at the city much differently.
