The Real Dad’s Army

The history of the Home Guard has never been of more interest than now, especially with the release of the new Dad’s Army film earlier this year. As military units go, it is interesting for collectors, historians of social life, and re-enactors. It was a unique military organisation, which stood the country in good stead, and despite derision it served a very real function. Whether or not its members could have stood up to an invasion will long remain a topic of debate.
This work is basically an updated and revised edition of the author’s original work, which first appeared in 1974, when the TV series was at its height of popularity. It contains many anecdotes, first-hand accounts and a wealth of other interesting facts about the Home Guard, which makes it worth adding to your library. Some interesting photographs complete this work.
