It is now more than 100-years since the Battle of the Some was fought and was just one battle among hundreds fought during the First World War. Yet, after all that time, it still holds a fascination, which can only be understood by visiting the ground over which it was fought. This book sets out to allow visitors to set their own schedule and areas to visit. The chapters are laid out so that a visitor can plan to walk through the woods at Delville and Mametz, cross the open fields of Guillemont or the ridges at Pozières, names that are synonymous with the battle. The author also introduces figures at these locations and many facts. An excellent book to prepare to visit a tragic place.
