The Tigers of Bastogne

story continues below...

The Battle of the Bulge is unarguably one of the most famous and best-known phases in the closing months of WWII. It was a complex operation for the Germans to mount and the same for the Americans as they desperately defended their positions. In this work, the authors focus on the 10th Armoured Division, known as the ‘Tiger’ Division, which explains the title. Here, the veterans tell what happened in their own words, with first-hand accounts. Beginning on 15th December 1944, the book covers almost two weeks of fighting, when men had to face the enemy as well as the elements and shortages of everything. It is full of accounts such as Thomas Holmes of 54th Armored Infantry Battalion, who relates how they ambushed a German unit. The maps are very good to support the text and the photographs are full of atmosphere and convey how troops maintained their morale throughout the fighting. A great book to add another chapter to the famous battle.
